Rabbi Dubrawsky

The sudden and tragic passing of Rabbi Dubrawsky has left our community unbearably bereft and grieving.  He was a pure and righteous soul, so selfless in his devotion to others.  He was a revered and beloved teacher, revered for his depth and breadth of learning, and beloved for his sweet, kind, gentle, and caring ways.  So refined, so modest.  I once went to his house to ask his opinion about some Hebrew wording which he carefully and respectfully considered, told me what he thought, and turned to another person who also happened to be in the room and asked "What do you think?'  Four words.  So simple.  Always sensitive to the other, bringing him or her in close, making him or her feel worthy.  He made kindness look so easy, so natural.  That other person in the room was his wife, Dena.  His and Dena's home was a kiddush Hashem.  So many individuals and whole families were inspired by the Rabbi's example, were brought close to Yiddishkeit, and continue to be guided by his insight and wisdom.  It started with his legendary classes, but continued around their full-to-the-brim shabbos and yom tov table where people saw up close and intimately how the Dubrawsky family lived and cared for each other, how they welcomed guests, spoke Torah, and nurtured friendships.  How fortunate we are to have known this man and his beautiful family, but how painful and immeasurable is his loss.  May Hashem please comfort Dena and her children among the mourners of Zion and of Yerushalayim.
